If you like that you should take a look at Kevin Phillip's book Arrogant Capital. He details how with the growth of a Capitol and its' hangers-on, i.e. political class, lobbyist, financiers etc. comes a decline in the power and wealth of any nation. He uses Britain, Rome, Spain and Holland as case studies. Powerful stuff. Phillips himself is a Gingrich/McCain style republican (small, honest effective government). It is a sobering book (can be boring at times as well) but fascinating, and makes me feel guilty all the time for trying to become one of those 'hangers-on.'
I'll take a look at that. Thanks for the recommendation.
